Starting a blog can feel overwhelming, so we’ve put together this SUPER SIMPLE guide to show you just how easy it is to launch your very own website on Bluehost, step by step.
The best part? Bluehost has done such an amazing job at streamlining the process, that it only take a few minutes, as you’ll see.
We’re going to be setting up a WordPress site on Bluehost. WordPress is the most popular way to manage your blog, and it makes everything unbelievable simple, even if you’ve never done this before in your life.
We’ve included screenshots showing you exactly how to setup each step of the process, and we’ve made this guide as quick and concise as possible.
We’re covering all of the crucial information, without any extra fluff, so that you can get your very own blog or website up and running instantly, without being overwhelmed at all.
Let’s get right to it, shall we?
Step 1) Click this link to visit Bluehost and Lock in the best pricing.
First things first, you need to visit the Bluehost homepage. You can click the link above, or click the image below, and you’ll be taken to their homepage, which will look very similar to the image below. After you’ve clicked the link, press the “Get Started Now” button on Bluehost’s homepage.
Note the image below is just an example, you’ll need to click “Get Started Now” after clicking the image or link that will take you to Bluehost.
Step 2) Choose a Hosting Plan
After pressing the green “Get Started Now” button, you’ll be taken to page that shows you a few different options of hosting packages to choose from.
All you really need to take into consideration right now is how many websites you want to have in your account.
If you’re only making one website, go with the “Basic” option. Otherwise, “Plus” or “Prime” are both great choices for hosting more than one website.
You can always start with Basic and upgrade later, too.
Step 3) Choose Your Domain Name (Bonus: Bluehost includes a Domain Name for FREE.)
Normally, you would have to pay extra for a domain name, but Bluehost gives you one for Free! AWESOME!
The domain name is what people type into their browsers to visit your website, for example “Google.com” is a domain name. You can pick whatever you want your site to be called. If the name is already taken, you will be prompted to choose another one.
Step 4) Fill Out Your Information
After you choose your domain name, the next page will ask you to fill in your account information, such as your address and billing info.
You’ll also have some options for adding additional features into your hosting package, we strongly recommend going with WhoIs privacy.
The rest of the premium features are optional, and aren’t essential to have right away, and you can easily add them later on. Once you’ve filled out the information on that page, click Next.
You’ll also need to enter payment information:
Step 5) Create a Password
For this step, you’ll simply need to choose a password for your account. Choose a strong password by using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and even special characters like $, %, or ?.
It’s a good idea to write it down, but Bluehost can help you recover it if you do lose it.
Step 6) The Final Steps For Setting Up WordPress (THE FUN PART!)
Now that your account is ready to roll, you’ll receive a handful of emails from Bluehost with your account information, along with a link to dive right into WordPress and to put the finishing touches on your site.
In the past, and still today with many other hosting companies, you have to install WordPress yourslf which requires you to setup a database manually, among other things, but thanks to Bluehost’s AMAZING automatic WordPress installer, you don’t have to do any of that stuff anymore.
WordPress is already installed for you, and ready to go as soon as you order your hosting package from Bluehost.
All you have to do is make a few cosmetic choices, and you can start adding content to your site within minutes.
Step 6A) Choose a Theme
The theme dictates how your website is going to look, and there are MANY to choose from. Pick one that catches your eye for now, and it’s VERY easy to switch themes down the road.
After you’ve selected a theme, you’ll see the following screen:
Step 6B) The WordPress Dashboard
After you click “Start Building”, you’ll be taken to the WordPress dashboard, which will be customized to show you relevant settings and information based on whether your website is for personal use, or for a business.
From there, you’ll end up on the main Dashboard, which is where the magic happens.
You can add blog posts, you can add pages (Like ‘About us’ or ‘Contact us’), you can setup your website menus which appear at the top of each page and help your visitors to find their way around, and more.
It all happens from this Dashboard page, so this is the main hub that you’ll find yourself coming back to often.
If you were to type in your domain name at this part of the process, you would see a “Coming Soon” page. As soon as you’re happy with your theme, and you’ve had a chance to add a blog post or two, you can click the Launch button – and that’s it – your website is now live on the internet for everybody to see!
Step 6C) Ready for Launch
After you click Launch, you’ll be taken to a page that looks like this. You can give your site a title and a description. Please note: The title is not formatted the same way as the domain name. For example, if your domain name is “JerrysShovelShop.com”, your title could be “Jerry’s Shovel Shop”. The description is just a quick line to describe your site, for example, “The very best place to buy shovels online!”
One More Thing…
From within WordPress, if you click the “Bluehost” button on the sidebar, you’ll be taken to your Bluehost account dashboard. It’s not the same as the WordPress dashboard which we were discussing a moment ago.
This area is where you can access your payments, account information, and support from Bluehost’s incredible team of dedicated WordPress experts.
This isn’t a part of the launch process for your website, but it’s a very helpful area of your account, so we wanted to quickly mention it none the less.
That’s All There Is To It!
That’s all you really have to do in order to setup your website from a technical standpoint. If you’ve followed this quick guide, your website is now online, and people can start to find it.
